A Message from MIFMA About COVID-19

Dear MIFMA members,

Whatever role you serve at your farmers market, we know that not only are you dedicated to ensuring shoppers have access to healthy, locally grown food and other high-quality products — but you’re also deeply committed to the safety of shoppers and the products they purchase.

Never in MIFMA’s history has this mission been more important.

In response to COVID-19, we are touching base with you to share what we’ve done so far and where we are going from here…

We have shared links to resources created by the Farmers Market Coalition, the State of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Resources. These resources are updated regularly with the newest information. Additionally, we have also reshared relevant MIFMA resources including how to build a handwashing station.

We have also added a popup to our interactive Find a Farmers Market tool. The popup informs shoppers that farmers market operating hours may change in response to COVID-19 and encourages them to check directly with the market they would like to visit. Of the approximately 300 Michigan farmers markets included in this tool, 20 are listed as year-round or currently open. We have verified the website listed for each of these markets to ensure it is up-to-date and leads to current, accurate information.

We understand this is a complex and constantly changing time for farmers markets, and are working tirelessly on our next steps. We are consulting, learning, and getting the best information from our key partners, advisors, and collaborators, including state leaders and organizations. We will respond with more information soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions, suggestions, or requests for resources, please contact us at 517-432-3381 or via email at office@MIFMA.org.

Sincerely,

Amanda Shreve
