MIFMA Announces the Cancellation of 2020 Farmers Market at the Capitol Events

July 1, 2020 | Events

For the last 15 years, the Farmers Markets at the Capitol have demonstrated the importance of supporting farmers, ag-based businesses, and farmers markets to state decision makers by showcasing Michigan food and agricultural products on the Michigan State Capitol lawn. As many as 8,000 individuals come to each market to shop and support the farmers and vendors.

Due to a variety of factors related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Farmers Markets at the Capitol events have been cancelled. Instead of an in-person marketplace, we’ll be promoting our vendors on our website and social media platforms with additional ways to support them.

During this pandemic, farmers markets have been and continue to be among the critical infrastructure allowed to remain open because of the critical role they play in the food system. Vendors and market staff at Michigan’s nearly 300 farmers markets are complying with precautions and making modifications to comply with state and federal requirements. Farmers markets are and continue to be safe places to shop.

We invite you to use this time to support your local farmers market by finding a market near you. You can also connect with markets and vendors directly on the web to support them through online purchasing or other alternative delivery/pickup options.
