As you may have heard, MDHHS recently announced their plan to upgrade Michigan’s SNAP EBT Bridge Card used for food and cash assistance to a “more secure Chip card.” These changes are part of a national initiative by the USDA and are projected to begin on May 1, 2026.
MIFMA is aware of these changes and is already working with our point-of-sale (POS) equipment providers and MDHHS to assist with the transition. We will distribute information on our website, Facebook page, and via email as it becomes available.
- If you’re a SNAP authorized retailer: As of February 26, 2026, we anticipate that both devices distributed through MIFMA’s no-cost wireless equipment program will be compatible with the new chip cards after a simple software update. Stay tuned from emails from MIFMA and your POS equipment provider (TotilPay Go or Merchant Source) for updates.
- If you’re a SNAP program participant: Check the MI Bridges site for the most up to date information available.
If you have any questions or concerns about the transition process, please contact us at foodaccess@mifma.org. Thank you for your patience during this transition!
