The Michigan Farmers Market Association is proud to announce we have selected two recipients of the Julia A. Darnton scholarship. These recipients represent farmers markets in Michigan communities greatly impacted by the ongoing pandemic.
Since the Market Manager Certificate Program (MMCP) launched in 2011, more than 300 market managers across 6 states have been equipped with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to provide leadership for thriving farmers markets. And during this time, one individual has made significant personal and professional investments in helping the program and the market managers it trains succeed. Julia Darnton is not only an alumnus of the inaugural class, but she continues to go above and beyond to support the program each and every year.
Julia says, “Farmers markets are important to local food systems, economic development and civic pride. I am so proud that this scholarship supports the professional development of farmers market managers and helps to build thriving marketplaces in communities across Michigan.”
