How do I become a member?

Current members can manage their memberships, including renewals, through the member portal at MIFMA.org/Login.

What are the benefits of becoming a member?

Access to registration for key professional development programming, including MIFMA’s Market Manager Certificate Program.

 

Facilitated networking opportunities, such as the members-only Michigan Market Manager Facebook group, to connect with other members of the local and regional food system.

Policy voice by voting on MIFMA’s annual state and federal advocacy priorities and directing the work of the Advocacy Committee. To date, we have helped create and pass policy that expands the offerings available at farmers markets, including wine sales and sampling, Cottage Food products, wild-foraged mushrooms, and eggs direct from producers. 

Reduced rates on fee-for-service and market evaluation services such as Rapid Market Assessments.

 

Discounts on services with Taste the Local Difference, a Michigan-based and nationally recognized local food consulting, media, and marketing agency.

 

Elect MIFMA’s Board of Directors and vote on other issues that may come before the membership, helping to steer the organization’s future, priorities, and strategic planning.

How long does my membership last?

All memberships purchased will be active January 1 through December 31.

Memberships purchased between January 1 and June 30 will be for the current calendar year. 

Any memberships purchased between July 1 and December 31 will be for the following calendar year. If you purchase a membership in the last 6 months of the year, you will still receive MIFMA member benefits.

How much does it cost to be a member?

Membership dues are self-selected using the table below with a minimum amount of $100. Dues are based on each member’s assessment of their own capacity based on total annual revenue or expenses – whichever is greater. (Need help determining your market’s budget? Check our resource here!)

All members, regardless of dues paid, will receive continued high quality communication, resources, and technical assistance. Dues are nonrefundable.

Who can become a member?

MIFMA has two membership categories – Community-Driven Marketplaces and Organizational Friends. 

The Community-Driven Marketplace category is meant to be expansive – including farm stands, farmers markets, CSA programs, mobile markets, food box programs, and more. These are programs or markets that connect consumers and producers of local food and farm products. 

 

The Organizational Friends category is also expansive – including any individual or organization that supports community-driven marketplaces in connecting consumers with local food and farm products. Some examples may be local health departments, marketing organizations, trade associations, and more.

Can I become a member if I don't fit into one of the categories above?

MIFMA streamlined our membership categories to best serve our members in 2023. MIFMA membership is designed to provide tangible benefits to the primary audiences we serve.
