The City of Portage is seeking a creative, organized, self-motivated individual for the position of Farmers' Market Manager. This is a part-time position that works year round with the primary responsibility managing the day-to-day operation of the Farmers Market, currently operating May through October on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. This will include an on-site presence at the market during all market hours, as well as in office work during non-market hours. Responsibilities will also include conducting the one-day Winter Farmers' Market in December and offering vendors the opportunity to conduct business during at least three other major events. In addition, the Farmers' Market Manager will represent the market to the market’s vendors, the consumers and to the community. Administrative duties will include, but not be limited to, enrolling farmers/vendors, the review and retention of vendor forms, ensuring collection of fees owed through on-line registration system with accurate accounting, on-going communication of policies, activities, and rules to vendors, providing weekly accounting and performance reports as well as assess market usage.
Candidate must be 18 years of age minimum with a HS Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Certified Market Manager credential must be held from the Michigan Farmers Market Association (MiFMA) or be willing to obtain certification by completing course requirements in winter 2022. Selected candidate will possess a Food Handler or Kitchen Manager certification or be willing to obtain certification. Experience in managing a Farmers’ Market program desired.
Pay range is $14.26 - $17.12/hour, based on previous Farmers' Market experience. 20-28 Hour per week, based upon the needs of the season. Majority of Sundays required May thru October, 7:00 A.M. – 4 P.M., with four additional events in the off-season. Hours outside of the market day are flexible. In addition to other hours, Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons are desired. No benefits included. Post-offer conditions require the ability to pass a background and driver license check and a drug/alcohol screen, including marijuana.
